About

About Ismeron, an open notebook on everyday money

01

What Ismeron is

Ismeron is an independent editorial project about personal finance, written for people in South Africa who want to understand their own money better. It gathers plain-language notes on budgeting, saving, setting goals, understanding risk and making calmer decisions — the groundwork of a household's finances, in the order the questions tend to come up.

02

Why it exists

A great deal of money knowledge is passed around informally and lost when it is not written down, while much of what is published is either too technical or is really a sales pitch. Ismeron tries to set out the practical ideas clearly and honestly, without jargon and without anything to sell, so that a reader can see why a choice works or fails rather than simply being told what to do.

03

What it publishes

The material is a set of short articles and notes on:

  • building a realistic household budget;
  • saving on purpose and building an emergency fund;
  • setting goals with an amount and a timeline;
  • understanding and sizing risk before deciding;
  • reading the total cost of credit and debt;
  • a simple monthly review routine.
04

What it is not

Ismeron is strictly informational and educational. It does not sell financial products, does not accept commissions, does not manage money and is not a registered financial services provider. Nothing here is personalised financial, tax or legal advice; for decisions that depend on your own circumstances, consult a professional registered with the Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA). The images on the site are illustrative and do not depict real clients.
